Orig. survey notes: Owner Perigard, Caltech professor
SHPO Description: This structure consists of a two-story clapboard sided Victorian farm house with a cross-gabled roof. A covered veranda wraps around the house on three sides. Architectural details include carved verandah posts and brackets, the verandah railing and double hung wood sash windows. This house is an excellent example of the Victorian farm house in Altadena/Pasadena and is one of the few remaining in the area.
SHPO Significance: Lewis and Olive Schumann emigrated from the mid-west to Los Angeles in 1883. In 1888, they bought 18-acres on Woodbury Road and built this farm house. The house was one of the first in the Lake Avenue area and is one of the oldest remaining in the community. It typlifies the Victorian era farm house of the late 1800's as built in Southern California. The Schumann's daughter, Adeline, (Mrs. M.H. O'Brian) lived in Altadena until she died in 1971.
